First screened in 2002, the historical film Russian Ark directed by Alexandr Sokurov and set entirely in Russia’s Hermitage museum offers an excellent means to explore how museums and history are imagined in cinema.
After watching the film together, participants of this workshop will listen to the critical commentaries of Rita Filardi, Registrar at Museo dell’Opera del Duomo, Natalia Parenko, Director of Accademia di Belle Arti di San Pietroburgo in Firenze, Paolo Grassini, Film Historian, Supervisor of Media Arts and Studies, Istituto Lorenzo de’ Medici (LdM), before a concluding session of questions and debate.
This is the second of a series of projected workshops that explore museums and cinema.
